Me, Coco, my daughter and wife on a nice hike
I grew up on a farm in Vernon Center, a bit south of Mankato, Minnesota. As a farm kid, you learn how to fix and build everything yourself, develop a love of hard work, and know to do everything with honesty, integrity, and kindness.
I moved to Minneapolis to study sustainable agriculture, and spent 12 years working with urban food non-profits, teaching kids how to cook, running commercial kitchens, and eating well, while building the physical structures in community gardens and urban farms.
For fun on the weekend and evenings, I put my building skills to work at my local meditation center, remodeling our main space in South Minneapolis and fixing up our retreat cabin near La Crosse, Wisconsin.
I realized that the building piece was my favorite part of the jobs that I had, and loved volunteering as a carpenter alongside my friends so much, that I partnered with my good friend from the meditation center, Matt, who was a fantastic carpenter, and in 2017 we started Mill City Design Build where I served as the designer, salesman, and part time project manager and carpenter.
We had up to 9 employees, and at that size, I never had the chance to work with tools, and it became increasingly tough to get all the details perfect the first time. In 2024, I went out on my own, starting Noy Design Build where I get to be the primary designer, sole project manager, and lead carpenter, working with the same team of friends who do the plumbing, electrical, HVAC, drywall, and painting. I’ve loved the change, and am finding that I can deliver fine quality and process, quicker and more affordably than I was able to do with a larger company.
I’m an open book - ask me anything. If you hire me, we’ll be spending a lot of time together. I work hard to earn the trust of those who choose to hire me, and I hope to be able to help you soon!
